We got invited out, today, to walk through a haunted house. Mum and Rachel jumped at the chance and I went along with them, curious.
Well, it all turned out much better than expected as, where we expected just to be walking through a house that was supposed to be haunted, our host, Kim, took us on a tour of old Maranboy. She was well versed in some of the history and locations in the area and took us on a 4WD tour of the sites. We were able to see many dwelling remnants of Maranboy's mining past as well as many abandoned vehicles and machines/fixtures.
We were also able to have a quick drive around the old mine and battery installation, ow ever the long grass, due to a late wet season this year, meant we could not see some of the landmarks she spoke off.
After a tour of the area, we proceeded to the local police station when some of its history and the stories behind some of the out buildings was explained to us, including an old gaol that would of been capable of holding 20 people chained to bars set in the lower section of the walls. It would not of been a nice place to be in the heat out here. Then we went through the "Haunted House" ;)
The house was used in the past as a hospital and had some links with the founder, John Flynn, of the RFDS but has now fallen into disrepair and is missing most of its walls. The decay seems to off been recent however as a solar water system can be seen on the roof.
We really would like to thank Kim for her time in taking us around today.
